The City of Tracy and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) are working cooperatively to examine and analyze feasible alternatives for two interchange projects within the City of Tracy’s limits.
Proposed improvements are needed due to increased traffic demands from existing commercial development and planned future growth in San Joaquin County. The proposed I-205 & I-580/International Parkway Interchange Projects will reduce congestion resulting from ongoing and planned development of the Cordes Ranch Specific Plan and improve local traffic circulation.

The I-205/International Parkway Interchange Project is currently in the environmental phase, which means the proposed build alternative is being analyzed for potential environmental impacts as required by the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This environmental analysis looks at a wide range of resource areas such as air quality, noise, community and land use to identify potential impacts and establish clear mitigations prior to approval to move the project forward into final design.
Caltrans, the CEQA and NEPA lead agency for the I-205/International Parkway Interchange Project, circulated the project Draft Environmental Document (DED) for public review in July 2020. Caltrans has received public comments and is now preparing the Final Environmental Document. In March 2021, the I-580/International Parkway Interchange Project completed the environmental phase during which the proposed build alternative was analyzed for potential environmental impacts as required by the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The environmental analysis looked at a wide range of resource areas such as air quality, noise, community and land use to identify potential impacts, and establish clear mitigations. The I-580/International Parkway Interchange Project is currently in the final design phase which involves detailed design of the proposed improvements, right of way acquisition, utility relocation, and stage construction definition, as defined in the approved Final Environmental Document. All Pedestrian traffic conveys through interchange on a sidewalk on the northbound side of Mountain House/International Parkway
Westbound off-ramp consists of five lanes
New westbound loop on-ramp consists of two lanes to westbound I-205
Westbound direct on-ramp allowing for three lanes
Eastbound direct on-ramp would be realigned allowing for three lanes
Eastbound direct off-ramp would be restriped to accommodate three lanes at the signalized intersection with Mountain House Parkway

I-580 and International Parkway/Patterson Pass Road is located next to the Cordes Ranch Specific Plan area. The Build Alternative would convert the existing tight-diamond interchange to a diverging diamond interchange. This will require minor realignment to the existing on-off ramps. The proposed diverging diamond interchange will divert traffic in both directions to the opposite side of the road while crossing over I-580. This design provides direct left turn options both on and off the I-580 ramps. Traffic signals direct vehicles safely to the opposite side of the bridge within the diverging diamond interchange.

Under the No-Build Alternative, the existing interchanges for both I-205 and I-580 would remain unchanged except for planned and programmed improvements. Impacts from traffic associated with the Cordes Ranch Specific Plan would not be addressed and other mitigation for impacts of the specific plan would need to be identified.
